Visiting Railstory

Rail Story is a collaboration between the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, the Vintage Carriages Trust, and the Bahamas Locomotive Society. It offers visitors a chance to explore and appreciate the preservation and conservation of our railway heritage.

We’ve created this page to offer clear accessibility information to help you plan your visit. We understand that the historical design of heritage railways and buildings might present some challenges, but we are committed to making your experience as comfortable and accessible as possible. Yes, there are two disabled parking bays located outside The Carriage Works, along with a designated ‘drop-off’ area nearby.

Additionally, there are two more designated disabled bays close to the station building. If these bays are full, we recommend dropping off passengers near the building and then parking the car in another area.

Please be aware that the main car park is paved with authentic stone setts, so extra caution is advised.

Free parking is available for all passengers in our car park.

Ingrow West Station
There is a curb approximately 3.5 inches high next to the disabled parking bays at Ingrow Station, which may be a barrier for some. A small ramp is available on request from Ingrow West Station to aid in alighting to the path from the car park. Beyond this curb, you will find level access to the Booking Hall (where tickets can be purchased) via the platform. All train services provide ramped access for boarding.

The Engine Shed
Wheelchair access is available to both levels of ‘The Engine Shed’ via a dedicated vertical platform lift located near the spiral staircase. The lift operates with a ‘press and hold’ button system for independent use. Please be aware that the interior of ‘The Engine Shed’ is relatively compact and may be less accessible during busy times.

The Carriage Works
The museum is fully accessible with level access from the car park. A dropped curb near the disabled bays provides a smooth transition onto the stone path leading to the museum. At the middle left of the museum, a dedicated vertical platform lift provides access to the carriage viewing platform. The lift key is available at reception. Please ask a member of staff for assistance with the stairlift upon arrival.

Accessible toilets are available at The Carriage Works, located at the bottom of the car park, and in ‘The Engine Shed,’ situated between VCT and Ingrow West Station. Both locations also have baby changing units.

Please note that there are no accessible toilets on the platform.

Visitors who can only visit us with another person’s assistance may claim an Essential Companion Ticket, provided they purchase a standard full-priced Adult or Child Day Rover ticket for themselves. For more information click HERE.
